Corrupto-Capitalism

I’m not anti-capitalist. I actually support capitalism, I think it’s a good thing. I just think you can have capitalism without corruption,

We are here to Help

Government is good at one thing: It knows how to break your legs, hand you a crutch, and say, "See, if it weren't for the government, you wouldn't be able to walk."

Linearity

I have this distressing habit which I have to disclose to you.  I have a very linear mind.  I believe that this is true, and this is true and this is true and this is true and this is true and this has to happen.  What I do is I confuse two words in English - one is inevitable, and the other is imminent.

The Economist's Job

An Economist is somebody who doesn't just see the immediate and direct effects of an action.  A six year old can usually tell you the immediate and direct effect of actions.  That's not hard.  An Economist tells you the indirect and delayed effects.

Technology and Theft

The higher the technological level of a society, the less sense theft makes. The whole story of civilization is one of the replacement of theft by production as a means to live. ... In a hi-tech world, theft is actually counterproductive, much like stealing the answers to a test really gains one nothing.

On the Drug War

Fighting a multi-decade war against plants is just a dumb idea, ranking up there with other such gems as spending our way out of recession, borrowing our way out of debt, and invading other countries to reduce hatred against America.

A chicken in every pot, a wiretap on every phone.

I'm reminded of Herbert Hoover's 1928 winning presidential campaign slogan, "A chicken in every pot, a car in every garage." Perhaps the modern analogy is "a government agent on every corner, a wiretap on every phone." It is, after all, for our security.

Futurists

To futurists, advances in technology are equated with advances in civilization.  Intellectually sophisticated, philosophically naïve, the futurists live in a world where new equals better.

Violence

I abhor violence. Non-retaliatory violence is a desperate act of intolerant men who cannot sort out their differences reasonably and peacefully.  Violence is the answer for those who lack the intellectual merit to win a battle of ideas and can only resort to more animalistic behavior to impress their point.

On Voir Dire

You could say it's the process by which the system assures that no qualified person serves on a jury – or the process by which we make sure to get the dregs of society's barrel instead of the cream of society's crop.
Louis James

Recess

Beware of all politicians everywhere. They excelled at recess when they were in school but have excelled at little since.

Whiskey and Borrowing

...giving politicians the ability to borrow is like giving a teenager a bottle of whiskey and the keys to a Corvette.

Debt Solution

How can the solution for debt and consumption be more debt and more consumption? How can that be the solution to our problems?

Doug Casey on Education

I fear that most of what kids get today, whether in grade school, high school, college, or post-grad, is not education. It’s training.
